Announcement One
Unlike most redrafts which end after one season we decided to put a twist on tradition. We are going to attempt to make a multiple season redraft. It may sound complicated but once you get the hang of things it should make this even more interesting.
The first thing you want to look at is a player’s contract. Nhlnumbers.com is perfect for this. We will use Marian Hossa as an example.
Go to nhlnumbers.com > Find DET along the top and click > locate Marian Hossa (his cap hit for this season as was previously explained is in dark grey at 7.450) > to the right is the remainder of his contract (the firs t number is his salary as of the 08/09 season) > underneath the 09/10 season is UFA (unrestricted free agent) highlighted in red.
As you can see he doesn’t have a contract after this season. This means that during the offseason you can allow him to ‘walk’ meaning you wouldn’t resign him. This clears his salary from you Cap hit and would allow you that money to use to resign another player or sign a free agent.
A player is considered resigned once he signs a REAL LIFE contract. This allows us to use a REAL LIFE cap hit. If you think a player is going to sign or resign for a higher price, one you cannot afford, it would be wise to let him walk. You MUST declare that you are resigning him or not before the players signs a real life contract.

We are also adding another round of voting. Don’t panic it shouldn’t be too crazy! Once teams are finalized we are having a round of regular season voting. This will rank you ‘mid-season’ allowing for a ‘trade-deadline’. Since we are doing at least two seasons you can sell if ranked low and buy if ranked high. Keep in mind the teams that don’t make the playoffs will be able to participate in an one round NHL Entry draft using the top 14 prospects in the real life entry draft (meaning Tavares and Hedman)
